Ep. #66: Herbalist and Witch Alexis Cunningfolk of Worts and Cunning Apothecary on Astroherbology, Herbal Medicine in the Tarot, and Taking Up Space in Your Own Life
Intersectional herbalist and witch Alexis Cunningfolk of Worts and Cunning Apothecary joins Living Open this week to talk about astroherbology, herbal medicine in the tarot, and taking up space in your own life.
“Continue to write the stories, write yourself into these stories…make sure that you’re being seen in your own practice and your own life.”
Alexis is an incredible herbalist and nonbinary witch who helps humans re-enchant their lives. Alexis practices astroherbology and teaches about the intersections of herbalism and tarot, which obviously as a tarot reader I think is awesome.
“[Astroherbology] sees the body as a whole that needs tending to, as opposed to repairing…that just needs to be rebalanced, reminded of its own inherent worth and sacredness.”
But really I love their approach around not healing you but helping you remember your own magic and your own healing powers.
“I’m not interested in doing [this work] while hiding in the corner with my face against the wall…part of being seen is that you’re able to see others with more clarity…I realized it was a practice of homecoming, being seen.”
In this episode, we talk about:
- Alexis’ journey to witchcraft and herbalism
- Intersectional herbalism
- Their struggles and work around being seen, especially as an online business owner
- Herbs to work with for Virgo season (which starts August 23rd)
- How tarot and herbalism intersect, and more
“Don’t take yourself out of your own practice.”
